Day 9: Tsarentsyno Palace (Thymen)

Posted on

Today started in the Irish Pub. After a long conversation with fellow engineering colleagues from Siberia I looked for the metro to return to the hostel in order to go sleep. After the pub crawl we started the morning with a good hangover breakfast containing eggs, sausages and coffee, which some people desparately needed to get awake.
Around 11 o’clock we went to the Tsaritsyno Palace where there were many buildings containing a lot of art, including many portraits of the royal family that lived there. Around the palace was a huge park and a lake around which I have walked a few kilometers.
After the visit to the palace we had some free time, so I went to the city to find some dinner. I found it by a small restaurant where the waitress could speak some English. The last part of the day I joined Helm and Dirk on the metro tour. This tour brought us past the most beautiful metro stations in Moscow.
There were several copper plates that featured the Soviet hammer and sickle emblem and there was also a metro station that contained portraits from an architect, a calligrapher and an engineer. In the metro station with the portraits there was also a live band playing, which sounded very nice. After the metro I went back to the hostel to relax and prepare for the trip of tomorrow.
